New Yorker Mike Daisey creates groundbreaking monologues that weave gonzo journalism and unscripted performance to tell hilarious and heartbreaking stories that cut to the bone. In the summer of 2008, Mike Daisey traveled to the little-known country of Tajikistan with the US State Department to help survivors of the country's civil war tell their own stories on stage. A most unlikely diplomat, Daisey contrasts his experience as a stranger in a strange land against the history of the State Department, examining how we imagine the shape of our world, in maps and charts, and how those imaginings have shaped the story of history itself. As he gets to know Tajikistan through the lives of the individuals he meets, so do we, and the seemingly simple act of telling a story becomes a human window into our shared world.l

“The master storyteller — one of the finest solo performers of his generation.”
